Be More Experimental With Your Art

Unleash your creativity. Break old habits. Find your unique voice.

If you’ve ever felt stuck in familiar routines…
If you’ve ever wished your artwork felt braver, fresher, or more “you”…
If you’ve ever wanted to experiment but didn’t know where to start…

This course is your turning point.

Be More Experimental is a practical, energising, artist‑tested programme designed to help you break creative habits, embrace experimentation, and rediscover the joy of making art with curiosity and confidence.

Why This Course Works

Most artists want to be more experimental — but two things get in the way:

1. We don’t like to fail.
2. Coming up with new ideas is hard.

This course removes both barriers.
Through structured creative tasks, playful limitations, and guided reflection, you’ll learn how to experiment without fear, generate new ideas with ease, and build a more adventurous, expressive art practice.

Everything inside the course is built from proven creative strategies used by real artists — including the ones you teach in your Art School Collective.

What You’ll Learn

01. Creative Limitations

Discover how restrictions unlock creativity.
You’ll work with scale, format, unfamiliar subject matter, and timed challenges to break habits and spark fresh ideas.

“When you can do anything, you tend to do nothing.”
This module changes that.

02. Mark‑Making Mastery

Expand your mark‑making vocabulary with hatching, scumbling, stippling, contour lines, abstract shapes and more.
Strengthen your hand muscles, loosen your style, and learn to create expressive marks that feel alive.

03. Copying the Masters (The Right Way)

Learn from Van Gogh — the master of experimental mark‑making.
Copying is one of the oldest artistic training methods, and here you’ll use it to break out of familiar habits and discover new approaches.

04. Make Your Own Dip Pen

Experiment with simple, handmade tools.
Create your own dip pen from everyday materials and explore the freedom of unpredictable marks, textures, and ink flow.

05. The Creative Process

Learn the 4‑step cycle used by all great artists:
Create → Develop → Reflect → Repeat
This method becomes your lifelong framework for experimentation, growth, and idea development.

06. Experimental Processes

Push your creativity further with multi‑artwork creation, collaborative tasks, and fresh approaches inspired by Turner, contemporary artists, and your own curiosity.

07. Appropriation & Creative Strategy

Explore how artists borrow, transform, and recontextualise existing imagery.
You’ll complete a guided creative brief that helps you develop meaning, intention, and conceptual depth.
